How to get a 100% complete personal profile

The "Profile Completeness" indicator on your homepage and profile page shows you whether your profile contains enough data, based on the profile information you have entered manually and through the LinkedIn profile import. Click "Edit Profile" on the profile completeness indicator to open your profile admin page, and ensure you have entered relevant data into all sections of the profile, including a profile photo, your skills and skill proficiencies, languages and language proficiencies, website details and industry and work experience, as well as recommendations. Having a complete profile increases your chances if being discovered by others who are looking for someone with your skill set, and increases the DreamRate of the startups you are involved with.

How to search for people

Click on "People and Startup Finder" on the top right of the navigation bar and ensure that the "People Finder" tab is selected. In the "I am looking for" dropdown, select the type of person you are looking for. Optionally, enter a keyword into the "Keywords or Name" field. This will greatly improve the accuracy of the search results. Alternatively just type the name of the person into the "Keywords or Name" field. Click "Search". A list of matching results will be shown, and if you entered a keyword it will be highlighted in the results. Click the "Full Profile" button next to a person to see their full profile. For more advanced search options use the "advanced search" link on top of the results.

How to search for a startup

Click on "People and Startup Finder" on the top right of the navigation bar and ensure that the "Startup Finder" tab is selected. Enter a keyword into the "Keywords" field to describe the type of startup you are looking for, for example the industry sector the startup is operating in. Click "Search". A list of matching results will be shown. Click the "Full Profile" button next to a startup to see the startup overview. For more advanced search options use the "advanced search" link on top of the results.

How to add a profile video

Go to your profile page. Below your user name in the upper part of the page click the "Add a profile video" link. Assuming you have not uploaded any videos yet, click the "add" link on the right side. In the popup window click next. In the "Video URL" field enter the URL of your video, for example http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QDy6w-Nr2w0 and then click the "Link Video" button. The video should now be shown as a thumbnail. Click the video's title below the thumbnail to open its detail page. On the right top click "Set as profile video", and confirm with "Yes". Go back to your profile page, and you should see a new "Watch My Profile Video" link.

How does the DreamRate work

The DreamRate is an indicator of the startup's ranking within the Dreamstake community. It depends on many factors, including funding situation, number of completed DreamStones, the number of startup founder members, team members and advisors and their profile completeness, their skills and team skill mix and relevance to the startup's area of business, as well as the team members' activity within the Dreamstake community.

How do DreamPoints work

DreamPoints are awarded to Dreamstake members for their activities on the Dreamstake website. Posting in the forum, inviting friends, updating your profile, adding a profile picture, replying to messages, uploading photos and many other actions increase your DreamPoints. DreamPoints can be an indicator for your credibility in the Dreamstake community, and if you are member of a startup they also count towards the startup's DreamRate.

How do DreamStones work

DreamStones are the milestones a startup is likely to achieve on its journey to success. On the internal view of the startup profile, only visible to its team members, the DreamStones are listed with their completion status. Some DreamStones can be set by the startup administrator, others have to be verified by Dreamstake. Examples for DreamStones are a valid business plan, registration of a company and Dreamstake academy training. DreamStones can be customised based on the startup's circumstances.

How to import profile data from LinkedIn

If you have a LinkedIn account, you can populate your Dreamstake profile with data from your LinkedIn profile. To do so, make sure you are logged out of Dreamstake (if you are logged in, go to "Account" --> "Log Out"), go to www.dreamstake.net and click "Login" in the top navigation bar. Click the "Login with LinkedIn" button, supply your LinkedIn credentials, and on the next screen on the left side under "Login" enter your Dreamstake username (= your email address if you migrated your account from the old Dreamstake website) and your password, check "Permission to import LinkedIn profile granted" and click the "Login" button. This will populate your Dreamstake profile with data from your LinkedIn profile, and next time you will be able to log in to Dreamstake simply by clicking the "Login with LinkedIn" button on the login page. Click on "Profile" in the top menu to view your updated profile, and click "Edit Profile" on the right to amend your profile details as needed.

How to import company data from CrunchBase

To add company data from CrunchBase you need to be the startup's administrator. Go to the startup's profile page, click on "Edit" in the admin menu on the right side and look for the "CrunchBase" field. Put your entire CrunchBase company profile URL into that field, for example http://www.crunchbase.com/company/mycoolstartup and click the "Get info from CrunchBase" button. The data should now appear in the relevant fields. Click "Save" at the bottom of the page.

What is that annoying message on top of the screen when using Microsoft Internet Explorer 8 ?

Internet Explorer 8 is an outdated web browser, and we highly recommend to upgrade to the most recent version for best user experience.

How do I know which skill proficiency (basic/intermediate/advanced/expert) to use?

This is clearly quite a subjective area and will require some honesty :)

  • Beginner: Some basic understanding/exposure/skills, and the willingness to learn more. Maybe did a training course or explored the skill at home or in university, or was exposed to it at work. Can explain what it is. An intern or junior team member when it comes to that skill.
  • Intermediate: Enough to get many things done without getting stuck, and knowing enough to figure out many of the missing bits when needed. Commercial experience using that skill, let's say frequently for at least year. Typical team member contributing that skill.
  • Advanced: Someone who has been using the skill for years and is recognised by others for being good at it. A freelancer, advisor or service provider offering that skill should be at that level.
  • Expert: One of the few who knows nearly 100% about the topic, who could write books about it and teach others.
  •
